A complex business model with multiple brands has growing pains.

Shutterfly was growing fast and needed to implement a new business model quickly. As a retail merchandise company with a seasonal business, they needed to scale between volume peaks and off-season slowdowns. In addition, they were trying to create a more evergreen environment with new brands and channels.

They wanted a high-quality partner to extend their team, one that could scale quickly, handle rapid-fire volume, handle project management, and find a solution that wouldn’t necessarily require more bodies in more seats.

Shutterfly’s strong presence online relies on fast and accurate turnaround across multiple brands on a daily basis. Implementing a new business model could not allow for a breakdown in operations.

Aquent Studios grabbed the bull by the horns and quickly stood up the full-service creative studio out of our physical studios in Los Angeles, a more cost-effective geography than the San Francisco Bay Area.

Within seven days of the program launch, the team had completed over 100 backlogged projects across multiple channels including HTML5, email, print, site assets, promotions, and social creative. Aquent’s program management team was instrumental in providing project management leading to process changes and efficiencies.

RESULTS

The transition was successful, keeping the process flowing even as the brand grew and changed. Now, Shutterfly has a studios solution that allows them to be quicker, more nimble and responsive, and produce more, without requiring additional head count in an expensive labor market like the San Francisco Bay Area. To date, we’ve supported on 1500+ projects for them. In addition their new business model can withstand changes without slowing business.
